June 1st.
Half of the year has gone in a blink of an eye. We traveled so far and finally found the best place for our family - a house, a school, friends...Until everything went wild again.
ALMOST!
An honest mistake. Just one big honest critical silly mistake.
I have already reflected on this topic the last few weeks - How did I let this happen? Was the retrograde mercury movement in the sky blinding me, so I just had a collapse and missed the most important thing I should've done?
It doesn't matter much right now; by not taking care of our visas, I had to leave behind my new apartment and the new routine I had created so beautifully for the same old daily struggles.
Lesson learned I had to leave the Schengen zone behind for a short stay in the Bosnian lands, traveling with my 5y old in an old trashy bus on a cold rainy day. Nothing could be more sad that day. I cried all my tears at Firule's sandy & salty beach and packed my small suitcase (AGAIN) to start my visa process in a neutral area.
It happens that we spent (wasted) some crucial days of our Europe time walking around and getting to know other places before coming to beautiful Dalmatia.
Now, my partner, who was in the U.S., couldn't come back, and I couldn't stay, so we decided to move around while waiting for an O.K in our visas from Hrvatska.
I said goodbye many times lately to the places we've been - I always get sad when leaving, but this time we had just entered a place that felt like home - rooms, space, a school, new friends, and a great routine.
Despite being sad and feeling lost, our motto is "to do the best of what's around" (it might sound familiar cause this motto is not originally ours - thanks to Dave Matthews).
For our short stay, we came to Sarajevo for a few weeks to save money and get organized, and surprisingly, we loved it!
I never thought I would be living in Bosnia, but I have no complaints - the food is fantastic and cheap, the people are friendly, and we already had some great memories. Mountains were always my favorite, and we settled in a beautiful, calm, and quiet town nearby.
The bus routes and schedule is a little tricky; you can't easily find bacon, it has been raining since I left Croatia, and I still can't speak any word (just today, I learned the Bosnian word for ice cream - sladoled). But these small things get even smaller when I think about how cool it is to have another country in our count!
I hope to get to know this place more closely as we try to do living a month or two in every country and photograph more of the lifestyle and culture that is so unique here, so keep an eye on it; more posts about Bosnia are coming out!
